Reinstatement to the Practicing Register
Apply for this register in order to practice as a registered nurse and use the title registered nurse or an abbreviation or variation of the title. Assessment for reinstatement as an active practicing registered nurse requires the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba to open a file for you to begin your application process. Please be advised that any documentation received before an application file has been opened and assigned an applicant number will not be retained by the College. Your eligibility to reinstate will be evaluated following successful completion of the following requirements:
- Application:
Complete the Application for Reinstatement of Registration form and return it with the non-refundable application processing fee of $52.50 ($50.00 plus $2.50 GST) to the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM). Your completed application should be sent once only by fax or by mail to prevent duplicate payments or charges to your credit card.
- Verification of Registration:
Complete the upper portion of the Request for Verification of Registration form and submit it to the appropriate regulatory body or bodies with which you have been registered.
If you currently hold active practicing registration in another Canadian province or territory, you are required to obtain verification from your current regulatory body. Please be advised that you may be requested to submit verification(s) of registration(s) from jurisdictions where you have previously been registered if the College requires this information to establish a complete registration history. You may make copies of this form if you need more than one.
If you are not currently registered in another Canadian province or territory submit a request for verification from all regulatory bodies with which you have been registered for the past seven years. The regulatory bodies will complete the form and return it directly to CRNM. Verifications of Registration are valid for one year from the date they were completed or sooner if an expiry date is indicated on the verification form.
- Verification of Practice Hours:
Complete the upper portion of the Request for Verification of Practice Hours form and submit it to all employers for whom you have worked in the past five years. The employers will complete the form and return it directly to CRNM. If you are registered in another jurisdiction in Canada, you do not need to submit a verification of practice hours.
- Continuing Competence:
In accordance with Regulation 128/2001, applicants for reinstatement of registration must fulfill the requirements for continuing competence in one of five ways:
- practice as a registered nurse for a minimum of 1125 hours in the 5 years immediately before the year for which registration is sought; or
- practice as a registered nurse for a minimum of 450 hours in the 2 years immediately before the year for which registration is sought; or

- Criminal Record Check:
Please note: effective February 1, 2013, everyone applying to reinstate their registration will need to provide a criminal record check.
The Registered Nurse Regulation requires that you undergo a nationwide criminal record check that includes a vulnerable sector search. The criminal record check must be current within six months of the date of the application. Please ensure all current and former names (if applicable) are shown on the Criminal Record Check. You must provide a criminal record check from any country, including Canada, in which you resided within the previous six months. This process may include submitting fingerprints. Once the criminal record check has been completed you must send the College the original copy. The Criminal Record Check is valid for one year from the date it was issued. Faxes, photocopies and scanned copies will not be accepted.
- Results from one of the accepted language tests:
If English or French is not your first language*, you must not apply until you are able to provide evidence of having achieved acceptable scores on one of the English or French language tests accepted by the College. For the purpose of opening a file, you may include a copy of the test results that you received, but must arrange for the College to receive a copy of the official results directly from the testing company within one month from the date of the application. Language fluency test results are valid for two years from the date of the test.
* English or French is only considered to be your first language if it is either:
a) The language you primarily use for reading, writing, listening and speaking and it is the language you first learned and understood in childhood
or
b) it is the language you primarily use for reading, writing, listening and speaking and it is the language you know best and are most comfortable with
