The College will honour these award recipients on May 13th at the Canad Inns Club Regent Casino Hotel. Caroline Barghout of CTV News will be the emcee for the event. The evening begins with a reception at 1700, followed by the Banquet and Awards Presentation at 1800. Tickets are available for $55 or in tables of eight for $400. 2010 College Election

Ballots for the 2010 election will arrive in members’ mailboxes in early April stamped with the notice “Time Sensitive Election Material Enclosed.” All members will receive a ballot for President-Elect and members living in the Interlake, Eastman and Central electoral districts will also receive a ballot for elected board representative. The election for board representative in the Thompson and Parkland districts were decided by acclamation.

All completed ballots must be returned to the College by noon on Tuesday, May 4, 2010. Your participation is important. Read the candidate profiles and get more information from the College’s elections Web page.

President-Elect All Candidates Forum
Learn more about the candidates for President-Elect of the College. An All Candidates Forum for President-Elect will be held at the College at 1200 hours on Friday April 9th. Sheila Dresen, Chair of the Nominating Committee will moderate the event. This one hour event will include a brief opening statement by each President-Elect candidate, questions from the audience and concluding statements by each candidate. This event is available province wide via MBTelehealth. If you plan to attend via Telehealth, please contact Susan Irwin (sirwin@crnm.mb.ca) via email to pre-register. Your on-site MBTelehealth facilities must also be booked through your usual internal process.


Nursing Positions

Did you know the CRNM website contains job postings for registered nurses? Current positions for around Manitoba can be found at www.crnm.mb.ca/memberinfo-jobpostings.php

Employers wanting to post a position on the CRNM website have two options: free of charge listings and paid PDF display ad type postings. Free of charge listings are accepted from Manitoba employers only. These listings must be limited to 50 words (including contact information). Postings may contain a Web link to the employer's site for additional information. Paid PDF position posting rates are as follows: In-Province Positions - $100/30 days and $50 for an additional 30 days. Out of Province Positions - $200/30 days and $100 for an additional 30 days. PDFs should be limited to one 8 1/2 by 11 inch page and must be smaller than 3MB.

Morden Set to Host College’s 96th AGM

Mark your calendars for the Annual General Meeting festivities, kicking off on Wednesday, May 19th with a Wine & Cheese at the Minnewasta Golf & Country Club in Morden, MB. The AGM will take place the next day, Thursday, May 20th at the same location. Registration and a continental breakfast get underway at 0800 with the AGM commencing at 0900 hours. Two panel discussions invite participation on Scope of Practice and Legal Issues in Nursing. For a full agenda see the College website under events.

You Can Help an Internationally Educated Nurse to Succeed!

Red River College is currently looking for mentors for its Internationally Educated Nurses Workplace Partnership Program (IENWPP) which matches IENs with Canadian practicing nurses for support and voluntary mentorship. The IENWPP runs two times per year, in January and May and requires a minimum of 5 hours of commitment over a 5-week period, plus an orientation meeting. Canadian practicing nurses are invited to apply at any time and will be matched with an IEN for the next available program delivery. National Nursing Week

National Nursing Week in 2010 will be celebrated May 10-16. The College will be hosting two events during Nursing Week including a volunteer appreciation event at the College on May 11th and the Professional Nursing Awards banquet on May 13th. To help you celebrate, the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) has a number of products available through its website including posters, temporary tattoos, window decals and license plate frames. Nurse Leaders - An Invitation to Submit Applications for Membership 2010

Sigma Theta Tau International is an organization of nursing leaders, scholars and researchers committed to improving health by advancing nursing science. This honor society, founded at Indiana University in 1922 has 349 chapters at more than 391 colleges and universities. The focus of Xi Lambda is to: recognize superior achievement in nursing; facilitate the development of leadership qualities; foster high professional standards; encourage creative work; and strengthen commitment to the ideas and purposes of nursing.

Eligibility Criteria includes verification of degree received, minimum of a baccalaureate degree required (it is expected that generic graduates have completed a minimum of 5 years of nursing practice prior to application. Exceptions can be made to the 5 years if the potential candidate has made outstanding contributions to nursing in less than five years.); copy of curriculum vitae; letter to outline recent contributions to nursing in one of the following areas: education, practice, research, administration, publication, or other; and an endorsement from a faculty member and/or a STTI member.
