College Announces New Registrar/CEO

Kathy Doerksen RN, President of the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba is pleased to announce that Helga Bryant RN BScN MSA has been appointed to the position of Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the College effective September 8, 2009. Ms. Bryant’s appointment follows an extensive nationwide search to replace retiring incumbent Susan D. Neilson RN.

Ms. Bryant’s most recent position of Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer of Health Sciences Centre (HSC), the provinces largest tertiary care hospital, is the culmination of more than 35 years of nursing practice, including 15+ years of progressively senior leadership responsibilities. Prior to serving at HSC, Helga was Vice President of Acute Care & Diagnostic Services for the Brandon Regional Health Authority.

In those roles she created innovative leadership models; co-authored the Thomas Report following the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Inquest; pioneered regionalization in a non-urban Region in the province and achieved significant successes in a policy-governance mode.

Her personal philosophy of caring has been incorporated into a leadership style that acknowledges that individuals and issues are unique and thus worthy of care and consideration. Collegiality and collaborative practice have consistently been hallmarks of that philosophy.
