New Complaints Brochure Developed

This brochure will be distributed to locations where the public accesses registered nursing services.

Nurse Practitioner Posters and Print Ads Unveiled

As a part of the College’s communication plan to promote the integration of RN(EP)s or Nurse Practitioners into our health system a new poster and corresponding print ad was developed in partnership with Manitoba Health, the College of Physicians & Surgeons and the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association. The posters are being distributed throughout the province and are available free of charge through the College on request. The print ads were published in mid-December as 1/4 page ads in the Winnipeg weekly papers, the Brandon Sun, Steinbach Carillon, Dauphin Herald as well as the major northern weeklies. A second insert of the ads will take place in spring.

The posters are available in both English and French. You can assist in ensuring these posters reach the right audience in your area by requesting some and posting them in appropriate areas. Feel free to photocopy the full page colour poster on page 7 of the January 2009 Manitoba RN Journal or print a copy from the College's website and use it with our permission.

For more information about nurse practitioners, including a current list of the RNs on the RN(EP) register, visit the College’s website. To order a poster via email, send your request to info@crnm.mb.ca

  • Wednesday, April 8, 2009 - Managing Professional Practice Issues
The Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses requires RNs to identify and respond to practice issues that could put the client or others at risk. Professional practice issues interfere with the RN’s ability to practice according to the Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses. All RNs - direct care providers, managers, educators and researchers - are expected to provide leadership in the identification and resolution of professional practice issues. This session will explore “What is a professional practice issue?” and walk through the steps in identifying and resolving the issue using the Standards of Practice as a guide. Presented by Peggy Martens RN BN MN, Consultant, Nursing Practice
  • Wednesday, May 6, 2009 - Interpersonal Communications
Why do we communicate? Registered nurses rely on their communication skills to enhance patient care and safety. When interpersonal communication skills are compromised patient safety is at risk. This session will discuss the role of communication in registered nurse practice and complaints. Presented by Deb Elias, RN BN MN Manager, Complaints Resolution
  • Wednesday, June 10, 2009 - Documentation for Nurse Leaders/Educators/Mentors
Documentation systems that support professional practice are only one of the indicators of a quality professional practice environment. Characteristics of quality documentation systems will be reviewed. This session will also address the underlying principles of patient care documentation with a focus on legal issues and best practice guidelines. This session is reserved for nurse educators/staff development nurses as a Train-the-Trainer model to be brought to the workplace. Presented by Tammy Murdoch, RN BN MN, Consultant, Nursing Practice
There is no cost to register for these sessions. Registration is on a first come, first served basis as spaces are limited for in-person, teleconference and MBTeleHealth.
