Foundation for Registered Nurses Needs to Hear from You

This past December, the CRNM Board made the decision that in order to maintain direct services and supports to members and the public without raising registration fees, cutting all support to the Foundation for Registered Nurses of Manitoba (FRNM) was necessary. This decision to cut 2010 funding (approximately $7 per member) without commitment to reinstate it challenges the future viability of the Foundation.

The support of nursing excellence through ongoing education is firmly entrenched in Manitoba’s nursing history. In the 1920’s, Manitoba nurses passed a motion allocating 50% of registration fees to establish a nursing education fund. Over the past 90 years, Manitoba nurses have continued to support and value lifelong learning, originally through the Manitoba Association of Registered Nurses (MARN) Foundation, and later through FRNM. In 2001, the Registered Nurses of Manitoba voted to contribute 2.5% of their annual registration fees in perpetuity to support nurses pursuing professional education. Since then, the Foundation has distributed more than half a million dollars to support the educational pursuits of Manitoba RNs. The awards have helped in the pursuit of diploma, undergraduate, post-RN, masters, doctoral and CNA certification.

The Foundation is in the midst of strategic planning and we need to hear the voice of CRNM members to help determine the place and role of the Foundation for the future. Thank you for taking the time to bring your voice to this discussion – your input is a critical part of our strategic planning process. Click this link to begin the survey.
