Understanding Scope of Practice DocumentOver the past three months the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM), the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) and the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) have been working collaboratively on a document to interpret the scopes of practice of each of the three nursing professions. The purpose of this joint document is to promote understanding of the concept of scope of practice, how scopes of practice differ among the three nursing professions and the factors to consider when making decisions about the utilization of all types of nurses. All three colleges agree on the narrative sections of the document. The tables that flow from and follow the narrative provide information on the scope of practice for registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses. This is a work in progress; collaboration is continuing and it is expected that a 2nd edition will be released in the future.Download this document from the CRNM website. National Professional Regulatory Standards ConsultationCRNM is seeking input from registered nurses across the province about draft National Professional Regulatory Standards. The intent of the national standards, if approved by the CRNM Board, would be to replace the existing Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses. The College has developed a survey to collect feedback from Manitoba RNs which should take about 20 minutes to complete. Please take a few moments to provide your feedback. Your comments are greatly appreciated.Registration RenewalThe College’s registration renewal period will run from October 1 to November 15, 2010. Members are encouraged to renew online through the College’s website at www.crnm.mb.ca Options for help and support are expanding this year with the addition of a new Customer Service Unit at the College which will handle incoming telephone, email and online chat support requests. This new unit will provide more ‘live’ support with a goal of addressing each inquiry or question at the first point of contact. Remember that 2011 renewal fees are the same as last year’s – this marks the 3rd year in a row of no increase in your registration fee. We encourage you all to renew early & renew online to take advantage of weekly prize draws during the renewal period.Upcoming Professional Practice Series SessionsAll formats of the Professional Practice Series sessions will now take place during Lunch N Learn sessions from 1130-1230 including MBTelehealth, in-person in the CRNM Board room at 890 Pembina Hwy and teleconference.
