Last Chance to Register. Don’t Miss Out!!

This is your last call to register for the CRNM Annual Meeting, Education Session and Professional Nursing Awards Banquet on Thursday, June 4th. Registration and a continental breakfast get underway at 0800 with the AGM commencing at 0900 hours. See the full agenda here.

The Education Session begins at 1330 hours and features award-winning journalist and author Suzanne Gordon, presenting on how nurses can transform relationships to promote patient safety and nurse retention. Suzanne will also explore what kind of nursing profession Canadians need in the 21st century. Following her session Suzanne will be available for a book signing. Copies of several of her titles including Nursing Against the Odds; From Silence to Voice; The Complexities of Care; Life Support; and her most recent book Safety in Numbers will be available for purchase at the event.

The AGM and the Education Day are free but pre-registration is required. A registration form can be found on the College website.

The deadline to purchase tickets to the Professional Nursing Awards Banquet has been extended to 1600 hours on June 1st for eJournal subscribers. Visit the College website for more information on the banquet. Use this form to buy tickets by credit card and fax it to the College.


Registration as an RN for the IEN

The College will present the first of two informational sessions on Wednesday, June 24th about registration as an RN in Manitoba for Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) from 1330 to 1530 in the College Boardroom at 890 Pembina Hwy. This session will be of interest to potential applicants, employers, and those interested in mentoring nurses who received their nursing education outside of Canada and who have never been registered in Canada. You’ll find out about the requirements for initial registration in Manitoba, the process for assessing competence to practice nursing in Manitoba, the new bridging education course, the Canadian Registered Nurse Exam, Graduate Nurse licensure and other issues of interest to IENs.

The session is free of charge, but pre-registration is required as space is limited. If you are unable to attend the session in June, register for the second session which will take place on July 22nd also from 1330 to 1530 in the College Boardroom.


ED Retirement Celebration

Executive Director Sue Neilson recently announced her retirement from CRNM. All registered nurses are invited to attend a wine & cheese reception honouring her retirement on Thursday June 18th, 2009 at the Fort Garry Hotel, Broadway Room, from 1800 – 2000. Regulated Health Professions Act

The Regulated Health Professions Act is now before the Manitoba Legislature. Passage of the legislation is expected in June or July, prior to the end of this legislative session. In anticipation, the July issue of the Manitoba RN Journal will feature more in-depth information about this new Act which will affect all regulated health professions.


Be a Part of Our Province-Wide Dialogue About Scope Of Practice

The Board of Directors of the College has made maximizing scope of practice one of the College’s Strategic Directions. As a result, you’ll be reading and hearing a lot about scope of practice over the next few years. Visit the Scope of Practice page on the College’s website to read more about this initiative and to participate in a survey the College is currently conducting relating to the Characteristics of Scope of Practice document also available via the College website.

  • Wednesday, June 10, 2009 - Documentation for Nurse Leaders/Educators/Mentors
    Documentation systems that support professional practice are only one of the indicators of a quality professional practice environment. Characteristics of quality documentation systems will be reviewed. This session will also address the underlying principles of patient care documentation with a focus on legal issues and best practice guidelines. This session is reserved for nurse educators/staff development nurses as a Train-the-Trainer model to be brought to the workplace. Presented by Tammy Murdoch, RN BN MN, Consultant, Nursing Practice
There is no cost to register for these sessions. Registration is on a first come, first served basis as spaces are limited for in-person, teleconference and MBTeleHealth.
