CRNM/CLPNM/CRPNM Joint Education Day

Mark your calendars. The College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba, the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba and the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba are co-sponsoring a joint education day on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at the Victoria Inn, 1808 Wellington Ave in Winnipeg. Centering on a patient safety theme, the education day will feature four keynote sessions:

  1. Patient Safety 101

  2. Healthcare Culture and Patient Safety: Making the Links, Taking the Lead

  3. Patient Safety & Regulatory Issues

  4. Patient Safety in Action – It’s Safe to Ask
    Jan Byrd MA

Early bird registration is $60 (including GST) if paid on or before April 30, 2007. Regular registration is $75 and students can register for $35. Registration includes a hot lunch and two refreshment breaks. Visit the CRNM website to download an agenda and a registration form. The final registration deadline is 1200 hours on Monday, May 7, 2007.

The Nurses’ Alumni Association of the Winnipeg General Hospital and Health Sciences Centre supports the ongoing education of active alumni members through two funds – The Jane A. Malcolm Bursary Fund and the Viola Leadlay Continuing Education Fund.

Are you interested in studying for a degree, diploma or certificate? Your Alumni can assist you through the Jane A. Malcolm Bursary Fund!

Are workshops, seminars and conferences important to you? Your Alumni can assist you through the Viola Leadlay Continuing Education Fund!

Nursing Week in Manitoba runs from May 7 – 13, 2007 with the theme "Think You Know Nursing? Take a Closer Look". Visit www.crnm.mb.ca/nursingweek.php for updates on events being planned for Manitoba.

Professional Practice Series

Upcoming professional practice education series sessions include:

  • April 4, 2007 – Evidence Based Practice: A Critical Element for Clinical Decision Making
    Keeping up to date with best practice information can be a challenge. This presentation will explore the characteristics of evidenced based practice and discuss strategies for incorporating it into everyday practice. Participants will gain an increased awareness of resources for best practice information. The Canadian Nursing Portal will be highlighted.
  • May 2, 2007 – Ethical Decision Making in Registered Nursing Practice
    The Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses (CNA, 2002) is currently undergoing review. Participants will be provided with an overview of the draft changes and opportunity for input. The presentation will include ethical principles and the Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses. Opportunity will be provided for participants to discuss ethical dilemmas, ethical violations and ethical distress in relation to their own practice.

Each session takes place from 1400 – 1530 hours in the CRNM boardroom, 890 Pembina Hwy. There is no cost to register for these sessions. If you live outside of Winnipeg you can register to join us via telephone. Education materials can be emailed to you ahead of time.


4th Western Nurse Leaders Forum - Call for Abstracts

The 4th Western Nurse Leaders Forum - "Leading the Way – the Challenge of Leadership" will be held at the Winnipeg Convention Centre, Winnipeg, MB - Oct. 15 – 17, 2007.

A Call for Abstracts for concurrent sessions is now underway. Abstracts should focus on innovative practices and programs which will contribute to building nurse leadership capacity with all submissions addressing one of the following broad program sub-themes: Internationally Educated Nurses; Healthy Workplaces; or Leadership Development. Visit the CRNM website for more details. The deadline for submission is April 30, 2007.

The Forum is co-sponsored by: College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba, Saskatchewan Registered Nurses’ Association, College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta, College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia, and Yukon Registered Nurses Association.
