The Act will amend The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) to, among other things, require that, in accordance with the regulation made under PHIA, trustees take reasonable steps to inform individuals of their right to examine and receive a copy of their personal health information that the trustee maintains and how they can exercise that right. The Act can be accessed here.Manitoba Health, in conjunction with the Manitoba Ombudsman, has developed a brochure that meets this requirement and, upon request, will provide copies of it to registered nurses practicing outside of a Regional Health Authority, health care facility or health services agency to make available to their patients/clients. The amendments will also change the required response time relating to requests for access to information about health care a trustee is currently providing to a patient/client. We would also like to send our sincere appreciation to the instructors who facilitated the focus groups and the student nurses (310) from the University of Manitoba, University of Brandon, University of the North, and Red River College. We presented the results from our environmental scan to the CRNM Board at their March meeting and we believe your feedback was instrumental in their decision to continue to support FRNM through a revised funding model. The Foundation asked for and will receive 1/2 of last year’s funding from CRNM and with our fundraising efforts we will be able to offer the same slate of awards as last year. We hope our renewed plans will sustain FRNM for many years to come! Stay tuned as we creatively move forward in keeping all our present and future Manitoba RNs informed about the opportunities available for lifelong learning...as a recipient or as a donor! Are you struggling with new technology, debating the benefits of implementing new systems or wondering how to survive another change in your workplace? Nursing peer leaders can help.“We share the lived experience. Technology is too new within our local nursing world, and to not impart our knowledge with one another would be a travesty. For true learning to occur and for knowledge to be translated, we must share our experiences,” encourages Trish Bergal, one of Manitoba’s five nursing peer leaders.
