Registration Related FAQs
- I have recently been married/divorced. How do I change my name with CRNM?
Please submit a copy of your marriage/divorce certificate (photocopy or fax will suffice).
- I am going on Maternity Leave/Leave of Absence. How should I renew my registration?
There are three options you can choose from - only you can decide which option is best suited to your individual circumstances:
- Apply to renew as a practicing member: If you meet the requirements for registration renewal you can be approved for registration on the practicing register and can work at any time during the year.
- Apply for non-practicing membership: You must apply and meet the requirements for conversion to practicing registration if you wish to work in the next registration year. There may be a pro-rated practicing fee depending on the time of year you convert your registration.
- Do not renew: If you do not renew as a practicing member, you cannot work and must apply for reinstatement to the practicing register should you later decide to return to work. There may be a pro-rated practicing fee depending on the time of year you reinstate your registration.
- What are the requirements to reinstate my registration with CRNM?
- Why am I required to submit verification of practice hours with my Reinstatement Application?
The Registered Nurses Act & Regulations require CRNM to verify a registered nurse meets the practice hours requirement of the Continuing Competence Program. This entails verifying through a third party (your employer) that the minimum 1,125 hours have been worked in the last 5 years or 450 hours in the previous two years. For RN(EP)s/NPs, this means verifying through a third party (your employer) that the minimum 1,800 total registered nurse (extended practice) hours have been worked in the last 3 years or 600 hours in the previous year.
- What is the minimum number of practice hours I need to maintain my registration?
Registered nurses are required to practice a minimum of 1,125 hours as a registered nurse over the previous five years or 450 hours in the previous two years. RN(EP)s/NPs are required to practice a minimum of 1,800 hours over the last three year period or 600 hours in the previous year.
- Should I register on the Non-Practicing Register?
You should register on the Non-Practicing Register only if you will not be engaging in the practice of nursing but want to participate in and vote at meetings of CRNM, participate in certain committees and receive copies of official CRNM publications.
- How do I pursue registration in another province?
Contact that province for more information. Verification of your registration will need to be provided by CRNM to that province. They will provide you with a form to fill out and forward to us. There is a non-refundable processing fee of $52.50 (includes GST) for this service.
Complaints Related FAQs
- My employee has an undertaking/agreement with the College. What do I need to do?
All members with undertakings or agreements are required to provide a copy to their nursing employer(s). Make sure that you have a copy on file and provide written confirmation to the College about having received a copy. If you would like a template for confirmation we can provide one for you.
Read through the entire undertaking/agreement and determine if there are any other employer expectations, for example, the employer may be asked to provide employer reports regarding the member’s nursing practice. If you have questions regarding the terms please call the College ask to speak to someone in the Complaints department.
