Each year, evidence of members’ compliance with the Continuing Competence Program is obtained through an annual random audit process involving a minimum of 5% of registered nurses on the practicing register of registered nurses and 20% of registered nurses on the extended practice register.
Coinciding with registration renewal each year, members who are selected for the audit will be notified of their inclusion by letter that along with their completed registration renewal application form and registration fee, they must submit the required audit materials in order to have their renewal applications processed. The letter will outline the continuing competence program materials required for the audit.
Audit materials are reviewed by a panel of registered nurses and extended practice registered nurses appointed by the Executive Director. The panel will determine if members have met the Continuing Competence Program requirements and will submit their recommendations of whether or not a member has met the Continuing Competence Program requirements to the Executive Director. The results of the audit will be noted in the College database however no individual member materials are kept at the College following the completion of the audit.
Members will be notified in writing regarding the outcome of their audited materials and any follow-up required with members will be undertaken by the Consultant, Nursing Practice with primary responsibility for the Continuing Competence Program.
