Over the past three months the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM), the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) and the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) have been working collaboratively on a document to interpret the scopes of practice of each of the three nursing professions. The purpose of this joint document is to promote understanding of the concept of scope of practice, how scopes of practice differ among the three nursing professions and the factors to consider when making decisions about the utilization of all types of nurses. All three colleges agree on the narrative sections of the document. The tables that flow from and follow the narrative provide information on the scope of practice for registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses. This is a work in progress; collaboration is continuing and it is expected that a 2nd edition will be released in the future.
The Board of Directors of the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba has made maximizing scope of practice one of the College’s Strategic Directions. As a result, you’ll be reading and hearing a lot about scope of practice over the next few years.
On this page, we’ll post information, articles and excerpts from your comments about scope of practice. Join in the discussion as we work together to maximize the scope of practice of all registered nurses and nurse practitioners in Manitoba.
