Is My Practice Registered Nurse Practice?
Wednesday, October 14, 2009
In a repeat of the presentation given in March 2008, we will discuss how determining what work or practice constitutes registered nursing practice in Manitoba involves evaluating the specific practice in question in the context of the Registered Nurses Act and the Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses. This session will explore how CRNM determines whether a particular practice may be included as the practice of registered nursing, taking into account whether the particular practice is grounded in the competencies gained in basic nursing education programs and expanded through post-basic health-related education programs and whether the practice in question is currently considered to be best-practice and evidence-based. Presented by Suzanne Wowchuk RN BN MN CHPCN(C), Consultant, Nursing Practice.
The Straw that Broke the Nurse’s Back: How Conflict Can Contribute to a Complaint
Wednesday, November 4, 2009
Nurses experience conflict and stress in the workplace. Conflicts arise from factors such as communication style, time and resource constraints, patient care and safety concerns. Conflict can be stressful or have positive outcomes. The cumulative effects of unhealthy conflict, associated stress and lack of self care may lead to complaints. Participants will review the importance of managing every day stress and conflict. Presented by Deb Elias RN BN MN, Manager, Complaints Resolution and Tracey Legary RN CHPCN(C), Coordinator, Complaints Resolution
Extreme Makeover Workplace Edition: Creating a Quality Practice Environment
Wednesday, December 2, 2009
CRNM recognizes the importance of quality practice environments in which registered nurses work to deliver expert health care services to Manitobans. In order to assist registered nurses in working together with stakeholders to advocate for, and achieve quality practice environments, CRNM is implementing the Quality Practice Environment Initiative (QPEI). We will discuss the six guidelines of the initiative that will establish benchmarks for registered nurses and their employers to use in both assessing the quality of their current workplace, and in working toward creating a high quality practice environment. Presented by Tammy Murdoch RN BN MN, Consultant, Nursing Practice
