- Continuing Competence Program
Presented by Geraldine Selkirk, RN BN MHS, Nursing Practice Consultant, this presentation provides a review of the CRNM Continuing Competence Program purpose, requirements, and processes for nurses already familiar with the program as well as an overview for those nurses new to the profession.
- Preceptorship and Mentoring
Preceptoring and mentoring are powerful mechanisms for students, recent graduate nurses or nurses new to a particular area of nursing to gain clinical knowledge and benefit from the experiences of more senior nurses. Having a positive preceptoring or mentoring experience has been shown to impact workplace satisfaction and retention of new nurses and has significant benefits for the senior nurse as well. Presented by Nursing Practice Consultants Geraldine Selkirk RN BN CNEPHC MHS and Peggy Martens RN BN MN, this presentation addresses the issues of mentorship and preceptorship in nursing, the benefits and the costs, and begins a discussion of creating a workplace culture that supports and nurtures preceptorship and mentorship in nursing.
- Communication and Patient Safety
Presented by Deb Elias RN BN MN, Director, Practice and Standards and Tracey Legary RN BN, Manager, Complaints Resolution. This presentation speaks to the importance of an essential skill for nursing practice. Deb and Tracey delve into examples of when communication breaks down and its detrimental effects on patient safety. Recommendations for improving communication are discussed. Further communication resources are available in the attachments area of the presentation.

Presented by Leanne Matthes MA, Policy Consultant. What will the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) mean for you? Leanne explains some of the changes members can expect when the RHPA is proclaimed.

Best Practice Guidelines
In 1999, the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) embarked on a multi-year project of nursing best practice guideline development. The Best Practice Guidelines Project is about development of evidence based practice guidelines, pilot implementation, evaluation, dissemination and supporting guideline implementation. It is about applying the best available evidence to clinical decisions to improve patient outcomes and to promote consistent, high-quality nursing care. For more information, download the

CNA Certification
Offered by the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA), the certification credential is part of a respected national certification program developed by Canadian nurses for Canadian nurses. The certification credential is an important indicator to patients, employers, the public and professional licensing bodies that the certified nurse is qualified, competent and current in a nursing specialty. Certified nurses have met rigorous requirements to achieve this expert credential. CNA now offers certification in 19 nursing specialties.

How to Register
- You will need your CRNM registration number and an email address.
- Click the “Register” button found on the left hand side of the NurseONE home page www.nurseone.ca.
- Enter the applicable information. Please note that your name and registration number must be entered exactly as they appear on your registration card.
- Create a username and password and send the registration.
