Happy Nursing Week!

From Deb Elias RN, CEO/Registrar

Dear colleagues,

This May 6-12, we celebrate nursing week across Canada. We do so because you are at the centre of the delivery of health care, bringing substantial knowledge and specialized expertise to care for patients, advancing our understanding of health care, providing leadership and helping guide our health policy environment in evidence-informed ways.

As the CEO/Registrar of the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba, I have strived to move our work forward to be more progressive, accountable, and relationship-oriented – ultimately more responsive to your feedback and insights and to the environment affecting the delivery of care in Manitoba today.

It is not lost on me, our staff, or our Council that this nursing week comes at a time of continued challenges in our health system, and that the College has an ongoing role to play in helping to meet those challenges within our mandate. To that end, we have, and will continue to embrace change and pursue innovative regulatory practices that contribute to meeting health human resource needs while also collaborating extensively with our partners in government and across the health system. Our objective is to continuously identify and act on opportunities to improve the experience for applicants, registrants, and the public.

In alignment with that objective, we recently released our strategic plan for 2024-2028, focusing our efforts to bolster patient safety and deliver broader public benefits for all who receive care in Manitoba. We are committed to improving our processes, providing key data insights to improve decision-making and accountability, supporting long-term HHR plans, and engaging in meaningful reconciliation action. Many of you provided critical insights and guidance as we put this plan together, and I look forward to continuing to engage with you throughout its implementation.

On behalf of all of us at the College, I wanted to thank you for your continued engagement and work in Manitoba as registered nurses and nurse practitioners, as well as all our LPN and RPN colleagues, striving as I know you do to deliver quality care, nursing education, research, policy leadership and more.

Happy Nursing Week!

Sincerely,

Deb Elias RN MN FRE
