Board selects incoming Chair-Elect

Carol joined our Board in September 2016 and was recently selected as Chair-Elect for the 2018-2019 year. Her term will begin in August 2018 and she’ll work closely with Trish Bergal, our current Chair-Elect who will become Chair at that time. Carol has been an RN for 28 years and grew up in Southwestern Manitoba, but now calls Winnipeg home.

Tell us a bit about your background in health care.

I started my career as a diploma RN from the HSC School of Nursing. I’ve spent my nursing career at HSC, almost entirely in emergency nursing. I’ve held many different nursing roles including general duty nurse, clinical resource nurse, nurse educator, manager and director. I have a certificate in intensive care nursing, Canadian certification in emergency nursing and a BN and MN, both from the University of Manitoba.

Why did you want to get involved with the College through sitting on the Board?

It was a combination of interest and the right time in my career. The learning experienced by other colleagues who were either Board members or members of College committees appealed to me. The right time in my life coincided with an election time.

What are you looking forward to about your new role on the Board?

The learning opportunities and challenge of a new role. The Board members and College staff have such diverse skill sets and expertise. It is exciting to work with a group like that towards a common goal, especially with the upcoming RHPA change.

When you have some time off from your busy schedule, what do you enjoy doing with you free time?

Work life balance is extremely important to me. Doing things that allow me to separate work from personal time and just relax.
