The following information is helpful to you if you are a nursing manager. As a reminder, you can always reach out to one of our quality practice and standards consultants if you have any questions about nursing practice.

Employer Responsibilities

Employers have a responsibility to verify that the RNs they employ have a certificate of practice with the College. You can verify the status of an RN at any time using Nurse Check, our online verification system.

If you terminate or suspend an RN for professional incompetence or misconduct, you must also report this to the College. Click here for more information on conduct and reporting.

RN Responsibilities

RNs practise according to standards in order to provide safe, competent and ethical nursing care. These standards include:

Reserved Acts

RNs in Manitoba are governed under The Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA). The RHPA includes 21 reserved acts which are activities that certain health-care professionals are authorized to perform. Of these 21 reserved acts, there are 12 that apply to RN practice. Employer Bulletin

The Employer Bulletin is an electronic newsletter that shares important news and updates with nursing employers. We email the bulletin on an as-needed basis, usually in the spring and fall. Employers are encouraged to subscribe to stay informed on changes in nursing practice and College expectations.
