When does the College consult the public?

The College engages in a range of public consultation activities prior to implementing or making changes to important aspects of registered nursing regulation, including, but not limited to:

  • Bylaws,
  • Practice Expectations,
  • Policies,
  • Regulations, and
  • Practice Directions

The College seeks the input of registrants, the public, and other interest holders including government, Manitoba’s other regulated health professions, employers, nursing educators, and other affected parties as applicable to the changes or new measures under consideration. A diverse range of input helps strengthen the College’s overall ability to protect and serve the public interest through quality registered nursing regulation.

Current Consultations

The Council of the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba is seeking feedback regarding proposed amendments to the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba General Regulation

Two types of amendments, related to Registered Nurse (Nurse Practitioner)s, are being proposed:

  • Changing the title of nurse practitioners from ‘Registered Nurse (Nurse Practitioner)’ to ‘Nurse Practitioner’ throughout the regulation, with corresponding changes to the titles of membership classes within this subregister.
  • Removing the need for applicants to have a patient population specified when they receive approval from the registrar.

More information/rationale can be accessed by clicking here.
