Concerns regarding social media activity of non-registrants

Recently, the College received significant expressions of concern regarding a Facebook post made by an individual going by the name “Vicken Gould”  who worked in the Manitoba health system. We strongly condemn the anti-Indigenous racism and insensitivity inherent in the language of this post. The College is also deeply concerned by the overall message of indifference to the personal trauma experienced by the families of the victims as well as the harms experienced by First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples in Manitoba and across Canada.

After review, we determined that the individual is not registered with the College. We shared these concerns with our partners in the health system and are committed to addressing systemic racism and discrimination in the health system and to advancing reconciliation. Our newly published Code of Ethical Conduct makes clear that registered nurses (RNs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) are expected to take an active role in ensuring client care is safe, compassionate, equitable and free of stigma, prejudice, racism and discrimination.

We appreciate members of the public taking the time to express their concern and for bringing this matter forward. The College regulates all RNs and NPs in Manitoba and is focused to supporting culturally safe nursing practice. If you have a concern about the conduct of an RN or NP, please visit this page for more information.
