NNAS Expedited Service Accepted for IEN Applicants Starting October 2, 2024
Update to IEN application process will further streamline process for applicants in Manitoba
WINNIPEG – The College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (the College) today announced that the results of the National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS) expedited credentialling service will be accepted for internationally educated nurse (IEN) applicants.
This change is effective October 2, 2024, and IEN applicants will transition to this new process. With this expedited service, NNAS will issue applicant advisory reports within five days of all documents being received.
Previously, 80-90% of these advisory reports were issued from NNAS within 12 weeks of receipt of documentation. The new process removes the requirement for applicants to gather curriculum documents and will allow the applicant to open an application with the College earlier. It will also reduce the overall burden on applicants including a lower overall cost for IEN applicants in Manitoba.
“IENs are an integral part of the health system in Manitoba. This impending change is in keeping with the College’s substantial modernization and streamlining efforts related to the IEN application process over the past 2 years,” said Deb Elias, CEO/Registrar of the College. “We understand that the time spent in the application process and related costs for IENs to achieve registration as a registered nurse in Canada are important factors not just for applicants, but also in meeting Manitoba’s long-term health human resource goals.”
The transition to the new service will take place over the next few weeks. As there may be an increased volume of NNAS advisory reports that are released to the College, applicants are asked for their continued patience as both NNAS and the College implement this change.
“It is important that our application process for IENs helps to ensure patient safety while remaining responsive to the needs of applicants and overall changes to the process for assessing IEN credentials in jurisdictions across Canada,” said Elias. “Today’s announcement is another example of our commitment to working with our partners to do just that.”
Applicants can prepare for the application process by reviewing the IEN handbook and understanding the registration requirements.
